Submerged Combustion is a method of heating liquid whereby the products of combustion are forced through solution. The technology differs from conventional indirect methods, such as the immersion tube or gas to liquid heaters where gas (products of combustion) typically usually come in contact with the solution and is exhausted into the atmosphere. With Submerged Combustion the heat transfer occurs directly between gas bubbles and the solution, hence there are no heat transfer surfaces to foul. The heat exchange occurs directly between the products of combustion and the solution. The flame does not come in contact with the solution.

Submerged Combustion can be utilized to heat liquids with overall system efficiencies in excess of 99%.

This Inproheat patented technology is especially suited for dirty and corrosive fluid heating or for evaporative processes. Submerged Combustion Systems are suitable for unattended operation in a remote location and do not require a certified appliance/boiler operator. They offer a cost effective alternative to boiler and heat exchanger systems with typical 18 months payback for some systems.

Design Features

  • Overall System efficiency of 99% as compared to 80% in conventional hot water boiler and 70% in immersion tube systems.
  • No heat transfer packing or spray systems to plug or foul.

  • Fully automatic, suitable for remote locations without an attendant operator.
  • Solution agitation provides uniform temperatures and keeps solids in suspension.
  • Mixing action allows combustion tank to be used as a reaction vessel.
  • Can be fired with natural gas, propane, biogas, or diesel.
  • Energy efficiency, easy operation and low maintenance reduce fuel and operating costs.

System Efficiencies Over 90% - SubCom systems can be utilized to heat liquids with overall system efficiencies greater than 90%. By comparison, a conventional hot water boiler is approximately 80% efficient, and an immersion tube system is only 70% efficient. In applications where component separation by distillation or absorption is required, SubCom can be applied to provide liquid temperatures up to 188° F.

Many industries are moving to SubCom technology to reduce operation costs and comply with environmental emissions regulations. ALSO, SubCom systems do not require constant supervision, and maintenance is very low, resulting in further savings and cost efficiencies.
